Continuing in our 25th year of service to the spirit of Clear and Compassionate Communication and Skill Building for Business and Personal Growth.

Late Summer greetings to all...

Enervated, or Energized?

Do you know about the notions of playing to one's Strength? These days I've been making extra certain that I've protected against one of my arch Weaknesses - heat.

As a certified Personal Trainer and newbie Triathlete, I am stunned with each passing year as my energy vaporizes. Even the few moments as I walk from the cool oasis of my home/work space to my unprotected Corolla in the driveway during many summer days, can and does literally make me sick.

So if I play to my strength - Expressive in Words and Body - what do I do that makes my life better and dramatically improves the quality of living for others?

I persevere.

What are your strengths and how are you continuing to celebrate those gifts? Who appreciates you for your gifts? - your strengths? and whom do you appreciate for theirs?

Mark Reich, a man whom I greatly admire as a role model for his Patience and Compassion, a cousin who for years was a hero to me: he epitomized the word persevere - has breathed his last breath.

Mark, a Millville Massachusetts Citizen of the Year fought valiantly his whole life to serve others while fighting for his very life. I am so grateful that he called me to visit so he could look into my eyes and we were able to exchange our "goodbyes".

Is there someone you want to be complete with? Who knows when our time to leave this life will arrive? To celebrate a person's life after their passing and to celebrate our lives while we are living ... both are Energizing - both play to our Strengths.

This Month's $50 Free Tip:

Ask and you shall receive (sum thing)

The Sum of your experience will be delivered to you in the process of asking, that Thing will sometimes be as simple as a sandwich and other times you'll get something much more.

But what  do you really want? Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it - perhaps you've heard that admonishment?

Out for a summer's day walk in York, Maine with the lovely Folk Artist Colleen Sgroi, we found ourselves two miles from the car, hot and thirsty, hungry and penniless: we each left our wallets in the car.

Ever absorbed in the wonder of needs and open to creating connection, I stopped in to the General Store.

"Say, may I speak with the owner? We're both hungry and thirsty and I'd be willing to leave my cell phone as collateral while we enjoy some of your food and then walk back to our car so we can retrieve our money and come back and pay you - would that be alright?"

The owner waved his hand back to the man behind the counter - no he didn't want my cell phone and yes, it was ok to buy the nourishment on credit.

Later Colleen relayed to me that she had a moving experience as we enjoyed our sandwiches that day, "It was like Jesus said - Ask and ye shall receive."

What seemed to her at first to be behavior, my making the unusual request - informed her - the man WANTED to enjoy an exchange of trust.

I got much MORE than I bargained for - a sandwich and modeling behavior that inspired another person to reflect on every day spirituality.

As coaches, friends and seekers of joy, truth and good health we can ASK and Sum times - we do get a total return that really adds up.

Newsletter August 2006

We had a fabulous gathering here in late June. How nice for friends to meet friends and express whatever came naturally - talent at the grill, talent on the four square court, a birthday surprise... man, you shoulda been there!

But don't fret because on September 23 you'll have another chance...

We'll be building together a sculpture from "found objects": an old toy, a strange plastic or metal thing, scrap wood - anything will do - and we'll put it all together into a theme. The theme will be "Playing to our Strengths".

We will all be Co-creators of a wonderful day. We will celebrate our strengths and our weaknesses in a safe and stress-free zone. Come as you are with or without your favorite delicious-nutritious sumptuous offering.

Postscript

In the last two months I've really enjoyed meeting and conversing with folks about Christ, Loving Kindness and The Church. Many church leaders and lay people are confiding in me that they witness first hand lots of power struggles in arenas that ironically "should" be about patience and love. Ever notice this?

When I told a friend of mine that I was being turned down for the opportunity to present "Effective Listening" for Ministry Leaders because I wasn't "Born Again", my friend, who had help to found more than one church since she came to Jesus, said with a tone of mild righteous indignation, thinking those people had erred in their judgment: "Rob, you are the most born again person I have ever met!"

Well, that got me thinking ... In learning more about Jesus can we also learn more about coaching, effective listening and creating the lives of our dreams? To me, I find excitement when I notice common ground that brings us closer together. I find myself wondering - and as I wonder it occurs to me that wondering is perhaps akin to prayer.

For my clients with whom this creates resonance and results, we use it together in the coaching practice. For those who find other methods, other names, other thoughts other projections, words, affirmations - we use those. Whatever is for the greatest good.

In that I pray to persevere.
